Meet Brett

1. Passion for education: I have a passion for education and a true belief in the transformative power of community colleges. I took courses at West LA while I was in high school (Westchester High) and took courses at Southwest College and ultimately graduated from Santa Monica College with my AA degree before transferring to Pepperdine University where I completed my BA and MBA. Simply put, community colleges helped me get to where I am today and it drives my commitment to increasing access to El Camino College for Area One (Inglewood/Ladera Heights) residents.

2. Dedication to student success: I'm dedicated to the success and well-being of the students attending El Camino Community College. Thus far, I've voted to make over $500k of improvements for campus facilities, availed myself to students and faculty to discuss issues that impact them, I've sought ways to strengthen the relationship with IUSD and the campus and beyond.

3. Experience and skills: I've been the Area One Trustee for El Camino College since May 2023. Moreover, I've served on the board of a local education based non-profit (Al Wooten Heritage Center) and have been a commissioner (Parking and Traffic) in the City of Inglewood since 2017. These experiences have taught me valuable skills such as financial management, strategic planning and policy development; all of which I plan to continue to bring to the El Camino Community College District. Moreover, I'm a member and delegate to the Association of Community College Trustees; a membership which has allowed me to collaborate and learn from leaders in higher education across the country.

4. Collaboration and communication: Working collaboratively with different El Camino stakeholders, such as faculty, staff, students, and community members is vital and is something I've done throughout my time as Trustee. I am committed to fostering an inclusive and transparent environment for decision-making where EVERYONE is valued.

5. Vision for the college's future: My vision for El Camino Community College District and City of Inglewood is to increase enrollment of local residents, including IUSD students and alumni. I also will continue to advocate for the college, address challenges, and promote innovation and growth to ensure the institution meets the evolving needs of the community.

6. Accessibility and diversity: I am committed to promoting accessibility, equity, and diversity within the college by ensuring El Camino is an inclusive environment that supports students of all backgrounds, regardless of socio-economic status, race, gender, or ability.
